Turning key in car ignition

Signs Your Ignition Needs to be Repaired

Your ignition is key to getting your car to start: a turn of the key starts the pistons and starts up the electric systems. Problems with your ignition can prevent your car from starting or running, but luckily have some symptoms before failure occurs. If you begin to notice any of the following in your vehicle, contact a professional immediately to have your car assessed and ignition repaired:

Your Car Won’t Start

The most obvious sign that something is wrong with your ignition is that your car will not start. While you may get your engine to start turning eventually, the problem most likely lies within your electrical circuit: the parts may corrode over time and restrict the electricity sent through the system.

The Key Will Not Turn

There are two main causes to your key not being able to turn. If your ignition is too worn, the key will not align properly and will not be able to start the car. If your ignition lock is engaged, you won’t be able to turn the key and start the car. You will be able to tell if this is the problem by moving your steering wheel back and forth.

Stalling During Transit

If your ignition is beginning to fail, you may notice that your car is stalling. Rather than exhibiting while the car is parked, you will notice stalling while you are actively driving down the road.

Silence from the Starter Motor

When you turn the key, there is a sound emitted from your ignition starting and the parts of your motor coming to life. If nothing happens when you turn the key and other features of your car will not work, such as your lights, wipers or radio, your ignition may be causing an issue in the car.
